Ev’s Crispy Bao Bun Recipe w/ Japanese Slaw

Easy Bao Buns from Ev's Foodie Diaries, made with our Japanese Slaw. Crispy chicken bao topped with slaw, coriander and lime.

When it comes to easy, crowd-pleasing meals, Ev’s Foodie Diaries (@evsfoodiediaries) knows exactly what she’s doing. She recently shared these crispy chicken bao buns using our Japanese Slaw, and let’s just say… we’re obsessed.

Making bao buns at home is surprisingly easy and once you try these, they’ll quickly become a weekly staple.

Think golden, crispy chicken, soft fluffy bao, and a fresh, crunchy slaw to bring it all together. It’s the perfect mix of indulgent and fresh and exactly the kind of meal that feels impressive without the effort.

The best part? It starts with our Japanese Slaw Salad with Sesame Mayo, so you can skip the chopping and get straight to the good bit.

What You’ll Need

Here’s everything Ev used to build these crispy bao buns:

• 5 chicken tenderloins
• 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
• 1 cup plain flour
• 2 eggs, whisked
• Olive oil for frying
• 3 cups Salad Servers Japanese Slaw Salad with Sesame Mayo
• ½ large cucumber, diced
• 10 frozen bao buns
• Sriracha, coriander & crushed peanuts (to serve)

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Coat the chicken
Dip each tenderloin into the flour, then egg, then panko breadcrumbs until fully coated.
  2. Fry until crispy
Heat olive oil in a pan and cook the chicken until golden, crispy, and cooked through.
  3. Steam the bao buns
Prepare the bao buns according to packet instructions until soft and fluffy.
  4. Slice the chicken
Cut into bite-sized chunks for easy assembling.
  5. Build your bao buns
Start with a generous layer of Japanese Slaw, add crispy chicken, then cucumber. Finish with sriracha, coriander, and crushed peanuts.
